red eyed regular reviews
punk planet:
another masterpiece from chicago's most-overlooked bands. thick guitars resonate from track to track, the drums beat out their patterns,
and the vocals deliver retrospective musings. it's a mystery as to why these guys are still such a well-kept secret. forget Alkaline Trio,
this is the chicago band to support.
big takeover:
falling somewhere between old-school hardcore and new-school pop-punk, chicago by-way-of arizona quartet horace pinker may not be terribly prolific
(only three proper albums in 10 years), but have remained consistently reliable nonetheless. red eyed regular is a five-song, in between-albums
affair that showcases what hp are most adept at leanings to the likes of samiam and pegboy. albeit their approach is
ostensibly straightforward, it's also effective as evidenced on "retrospective" and "caught up," the latter a gazing at laces cover, a band
that was actually a horace side-project perhaps qualifying it as more of an original than a remake. hmmmm.
